Synopsis
Motivated by the enormous evolution of optical coating technology for high-power laser components, Chinese and German research institutes very recently intensified their cooperation in the field of optics characterization.
The joint research strategies mainly focus on advanced methods for the determination of laser induced damage thresholds and optical losses in coated optical components. Besides improving the precision, sensitivity and reproducibility of advanced measurement concepts, this also includes fundamental research in the underlying physics as well as relations between the production parameters and material properties leading to optical losses in functional coating systems and optical surfaces.
In view of the above, the Sino-German Symposium shall intensify the dialogue between Chinese and German high-level experts working on characterization methods for laser components and on the related fields in modern optical coating technology.
Major technical targets of the symposium include the exchange about the state of research in the two countries, the identification of research areas of common interest as well as the initiation of joint strategies. Not least, the symposium will also reflect current activities in the International Standardisation of optics characterization.
In summary, the Sino-German Symposium will generate a significant added value to the research activities in optics characterization and application fields in China and Germany. Moreover, it will also strengthen industrial collaborations and improve the economic potential of laser technology and optics in both countries.
